Who We Are
Nyayo Tea Zones Development Corporation (PLC) is a Government Owned Enterprise mandated to conserve and protect gazetted forests and other fragile ecosystems in Kenya through the development and management of agro-ecological buffer zones.
The Corporation combines conservation with compatible economic activities, including sustainable tea production, forestry and other livelihood-supporting activities that benefit communities living adjacent to forest ecosystems.
Through this approach, NTZDC contributes to sustainable ecosystem conservation while creating economic opportunities, supporting rural livelihoods and generating value for the Government and its stakeholders.
Our Conservation Approach
Buffer Zones are protective areas created to enhance the conservation of a specific natural ecosystem, including forests. They help maintain the natural environment while keeping the ecological niches within these ecosystems stable and protected.
In a forest environment, the buffer area adjoins forests and water towers, helping to conserve nature and maintain ecological stability.
Buffer zones allow compatible economic activities such as sustainable agriculture, forestry, recreation and ecotourism while supporting environmental conservation.
The Nyayo Buffer Zones support livelihoods for communities living adjacent to ecosystems while promoting a sustainable and balanced conserved environment.
Nyayo Buffer Zones
The Nyayo Buffer Zones are established within 100 metres of ecosystem boundaries to ensure a sustainable and balanced conserved environment that also supports the livelihoods of adjacent communities in rural Kenya.

The Corporation's approach recognises that successful ecosystem conservation is strengthened when surrounding communities have sustainable economic opportunities.
Through buffer zone development, sustainable tea production, forestry and related activities, NTZDC creates a practical link between environmental protection and improved livelihoods.
